If only Nairobi Street Kitchen actually had Kenyan flavours!

The fact that Nairobi Street Kitchen was commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta in December 2021 speaks highly of the ownership of the place or its intended target clientele. Well, first by sheer location in Westlands, Nairobi Street Kitchen appeals to the rich and mostly white race. Here, the black are the minority – little wonder that you will not find any single Kenyan cuisine – never mind an African meal.

Obviously, I have no right to suggest to the ownership what they ought to serve at these 11 urban artistic eating zones, but the name, Nairobi Street Kitchen, gives the impression that it will provide you with all the Kenyan street foods.

At the Hopskotch, you will experience bespoke desserts; ranging from egg waffles that you can top off with biscoff sauce, roasted groundnuts, etc or part with ice cream with the rarest flavours including cheese, mango, lemon grass, and lavender.

At Desi Loco, you can experience Indian street foods including pani puri, bhajia, butter samosa, chilli cheese dosa, paneer kathi rolls, silken sorji and of course curries, while steadied inside an archaic real bus.

At the Bird Exchange, you can sample Turkish marinated chicken, Korean fried chicken, American crunchy tenderized chicken or the hot Indian tikka thighs.

If you want some Mexican delights of toasted black beans, slow-cooked lamb, pork belly, buttered fish tacos or quesadillas, then check into Si Senor. There is also the Italian corner for pizza and pasta, while the 68 Library is for those interested in wine tourism.

While at it, you can enjoy free salsa dance classes and you are free to pick anyone to dance with, although you must know your stuff, because there is a very watchful audience.

There is no entrance fee, but you will indirectly pay for the experience in extremely small portions that you will have to order twice for almost everything.
