Transfer Gossip: Ten Hag registers Man Utd interest in three signings as talks begin; Newcastle to sign Spanish wonderkid for bargain fee
Manchester United are keen on three signings with talks very much underway, Newcastle are looking to sign Kieran Trippier’s long-term replacement, while Thursday’s Transfer Gossip claims Chelsea have a major problem over the Enzo Fernandez deal.
TEN HAG KEEN ON THREE GOALKEEPER SIGNINGS
Manchester United are reportedly keen to sign three goalkepeers, with Jack Butland just one of the names they are looking at.
The Red Devils are giving a lot of attention to their goalkeeping department with a number of key decisions due to be made. Top of their agenda is a new contract to David De Gea, with the Spaniard likely to sign on reduced terms.
He has been left as the club’s top earner following Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo’s exits in recent months. But his current £375,000 a week deal will reduce significantly, with De Gea indicating he is willing to sign new terms.
However, with Martin Dubravka returning to Newcastle after his loan recall, Ten Hag wants another keeper signed this month. To that end, United are in discussions with Crystal Palace over a deal for Butland.
The former England keeper, still only 29, has clocked up approaching 300 career appearances. However, he has slipped to third in the pecking order at current side, Crystal Palace.
And with his deal expiring this summer, talks to bring him to United for a nominal fee are underway.
But Butland is not the only keeper United are keen on.
And according to Football Insider, talks are underway over three goalkeeper signings, including Butland.
Ten Hag is keen to have three strong goalkeeper options at Old Trafford, with De Gea likely to face new competition.
Man Utd also linked with two other keepers after Jack Butland
And the next keeper he is reportedly registering an interest in is Borussia Monchengladbach’s Yann Sommer.
Sommer, now 34, has been regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga for a number of years. However, his deal with Gladbach is expiring at the end of the season and Ten Hag is keen to bring him to Old Trafford.
The Dutchman believes the presence of Sommer can keep De Gea on his toes and offer a solid alternative to the long-serving Spaniard.
Reports indicate United have already reached out to Sommer’s representatives over a summer free-transfer to United.
That said, Gladbach are willing to fight to retain his services and manager Daniel Farke has made clear their wish to keep him.
“I’m totally relaxed because there are always discussions about good players,” Farke said.
“He’s one of Europe’s best goalkeepers. He has a contract until the summer and we have no intention at all of letting him go.
“Why should we let such a goalkeeper go? There would have to be very, very good reasons for wanting to let such a quality player go. On the contrary, we want to extend the contract with Yann. There will be talks soon.
“We have one of the best goalkeepers in Europe under contract and we have ambitions. For that, we need Yann Sommer. Why would we let him go? There’s no reason for that at all.”
United’s other target is widely reported to be Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, known as Bono.
Rated the top keeper in LaLiga last season, he underlined his quality as Morocco reached the World Cup semi-finals.
NEWCASTLE TIPPED TO SIGN SPANISH WONDERKID
Newcastle are reportedly hot on the trail for Spanish wonderkid Ivan Fresneda.
The Real Valladolid starlet has caught the eye this season with a string of all-action displays at right-back. And while the Magpies have Kieran Trippier performing exceptionally well there, at 32, he cannot go on forever.
As a result, Eddie Howe is reportedly looking at the 18-year-old as a long-term replacement.
Club scouts have reportedly been blown away by Fresneda’s displays. As a result, the Daily Express claims an offer in the region of £13.2m (€15m) is expected in the coming days.
Newcastle are not alone in their interest in Fresneda though, with Juventus also reportedly keen.
However, the Magpies are reportedly in the driving seat with an approach likely to arrive soon.
And Vallodolid manager Pacheta reckons his young talent is heading all the way for the top. More bizarrely, he’s actively encouraging top clubs to move for the player.
“I think Fresneda has few games left with the Real Valladolid shirt,” Pacheta said. “He is 18 years old, but he does things that people of 30 do. If I was at another club, I would go for him without hesitation. His data is brutal and you are not buying the current player, you are buying what he can become in a few years.”
ENZO FERNANDEZ DEAL HITS PROBLEM FOR CHELSEA
Chelsea’s first offer to Benfica for Enzo Fernandez has fallen short with the Portuguese side rejecting their proposal.
The Blues are ready to shatter the British transfer record by signing the all-action Argentine. He has enjoyed a meteoric rise following his move to the Portuguese capital over the summer.
That move has seen Fernandez excel in the Champions League, though the best was yet to come at Qatar 2022. Helping Argentina to glory, he was also named Young Player of the Tournament.
Now a move to Chelsea beckons, with the Blues willing to go beyond the £105.6m exit clause in his deal.
However, the Blues’ attempts to pay an increased amount of £112m across three years has been rejected by Benfica. Seemingly angered by the player’s efforts to force through the transfer, they are now playing hardball with Chelsea over his transfer.
Now, according to the Daily Mail, Benfica have responded by demanding his €120m release clause paid in full and up front.
That presents Chelsea with something of a problem, with their plan of paying £37.33m in three instalments and across three years far easier on their finances.
Talks are set to continue, but if Benfica do not soften their stance, there is a danger the deal could stall.
